Card folder tutorial

Well prepare yourself for a photo heavy post! I do apologise that some of these photos are not the best quality as I took them as I made the folder and only looked at them afterwards to realise that some of them were rather over exposed!

It is very easy to make one of the card folders that I showed you recently. Firstly determine what size of envelope you will be using for your cards. The size of the envelope determines the size of the pockets within the folder which in turn determines the size of the folder.

Today I am using 10cm x 10cm envelopes. Taking a piece of card measuring 26.5cm by 12.5cm, score along the long side at 12.5cm and again at 14cm.

Cut two pieces of patterned paper 11.5cm by 11.5cm and mat onto card to create two 12cm x 12 cm panels. Cut a third piece of patterned paper 0.5cm x 11.5 cm and again mat onto card to create a panel 1cm x 12 cm. Attach the narrow panel to the spine of the folder.

Lay a piece of ribbon approximately 70cm long across the middle of the folder. Secure with a couple of pieces of scortape in the center of the front and back portions of the folder.

Attach the remaining panels to the front and back of the folder and voila, the main portion of the folder is complete.

Now for the pockets to contain the envelopes and cards. Cut two pieces of card 13cm x 8.5cm. Along the two short sides and one long side score at 0.25inch (sorry to be inconsistent with measurements but I have an imperial scorboard).

The score marks leave 4 small squares scored in to the bottom corners. Cut along the score lines so that just the top inside of the four squares remains and is hinged by one score mark on its inner side. I hope this makes sense - it's the best way I can think to explain it. Hopefully the photo below will help - cut on the red lines.

Attach scortape as shown.

Fold along the score marks and stick to create a pocket shape.

Center and attach to inside of folder.

Repeat for second pocket and add envelopes and cards.

This type of folder can be made for all sorts of different sized cards and envelopes. Just make sure the pockets are fractionally larger than the envelopes and ensure a 1cm border of card around the pocket/envelope.

I hope this tutorial has been useful.
