Hello! If this is your first time popping by here from Moxie Fab then I hope you can pull up a seat for a few minutes and take a look around :) And while we're talking Moxie Fab I'd like to say a big thank you to Cath for asking me over there this week.

The other day I started to play around with ideas for an end of term gift for my daughter’s piano teacher who is a HUGE Apple fan. For more details click here. Today I’d like to show you how I’ve been getting on. I felt the bite out of the apple on the original card was too big, so I searched out a smaller punch from a friend and liked the result better.

iteach1a
I made the cards a tad slimmer too; I thought it suited the Apple look and allowed room for a slick black pen in the final package.

iteach2

I made 10 of the cards and packaged them with the pen in a clear box with a white belly band. Clean, simple and hopefully very “Apple”!

One end of term gift sorted but many more needed so I’m off to put my thinking cap on!

OK, I'm hoping this post has gone live on time but seeing as Blogger is being a little so and so at the moment then this post may just go live when I get up in the morning!

Let's get to it! Thursday means it's time for our next instalment of CASE study inspiration from the lovely Laurie Schmidlin!

Beautiful indeed! In fact it was the sentiment which drew my attention. I loved the swirly font overlaying the simple heart. I followed a few of the layout elements too - rounded corners, mat layer, ribbon and die cut label. So here's my take on Laurie's card.

Supplies: Stamps - Papertrey Ink heart prints, Waltzingmouse Stamps say it with style; Inks - Versacolor seashell, Versafine onyx black; Die - Papertrey Ink fillable frame 7; Ribbon - Papertrey Ink sweet blush.

Oh and we have a sponsor this week - My Creative Classroom are giving away a single free seat to a class of the winner's choice!

A Little Treat is a 4x6 set that includes a total of 12 stamps and will sell for $15.

The cakes in this set are scrumptious and I just couldn't resist cooking up a layered chocolate sponge with icing dribbling down the sides!

tsg sneak peek day 1

Wow, the Easter holidays have meant that the last month seems to have really flown by and it is time to peek at this month's There She Goes release!

Melyssa has done it again with another adorable set that just speaks to my inner science geek!

Cutie Pi is a 4x8 set that includes a total of 14 stamps and will sell for $18.

The images in this set combine seamlessly with the sentiments to make fabulous sciencey (real word honestly!) puns. Here's one to whet your appetite.

Supplies: Stamps - There She Goes cutie pi; Card - Stampin' Up real red; Dies - Spellbinders hearts; Markers

Yep another CAS one from me, but then I think CAS just lets this fab image shine :)

Today's card is also an example of using the negative space left from die cutting which was the subject of Saturday's bonus day of the card class I'm taking; "A Cut Above".

a work in progress

I don't normally share anything until I am totally happy with it, but as this card fits with today's "A Cut Above" online card class (dry embossing) then I thought I'd show you my progress so far. My daughter's piano teacher is a huge fan of Apple. HUGE fan! And so I thought she'd love these notecards I'm making for my daughter to give to her at the end of term. Here's the card so far:

Supplies: Dies - Papertrey Ink apple, Spellbinders circles

This is just a tad CAS! I don't think I've had such a short supply list before! I computer generated the sentiment then embossed a circle die before adding the apple icon with dimensional adhesive. The apple icon comes from a Papertrey Ink die with the leaf and a stalk attached, but I just scooped that part of the die cut out with my scissors and then cut out the leaf part and added it separately. The "bite" out of the apple uses a 3/4 inch circle punch but I think it's a little too large and so I'm on the hunt for a 1/2 inch one. I'm intending making a dozen or so of these and dressing them up for gift giving. So not a completed project yet, but the idea is there.

cfc49 happy birthday Michele!

Girl Fridays both past and present and future have joined together in a fun little hop to wish the wonderful  Michele a happy birthday! Hopefully you've come here from Angie's blog, but if not check out the blog list at the bottom of this post so that you don't miss anything!

What a perfect opportunity to make a card for this weeks CAS-ual Friday's challenge!

I bought these Unity stamps to make a birthday card for a girlfriend of mine who always wears odd socks. The sentiment just makes me smile - don't we all need reminding at times to just live life and have fun? Michele, I hope you have a day filled with fun and happiness!

Supplies: Stamps - Unity Stamp Company - matching socks; Inks - Versafine onyx black; Markers; Clear embossing powder

Now it's time to hop on over to Lorena's blog to continue the fun but here's the blog list to keep you straight just in case :)

with deepest sympathy

I'm a little behind with my online class "A Cut Above". Thursday's class concentrated on partial die cutting which is a technique I've not really used before. As I sat down today I started playing around with a few die cuts and I wished Papertrey Ink fillable frame 7 came in different sizes. This is one of my favourites die cuts - I love the clean and simple lines. I know I can cut rectangles and round the corners, but a die cut always gives a better result. So I thought I'd try extending the width of this die cut with the partial die cutting technique. It was so simple and the result is perfect. I just wish I'd tried this before! So after all my ramblings, here's my card.

Supplies: Stamps - Papertery Ink little labels; Ink - Versafine smoky gray; Card - Stampin' Up early espresso, island indigo, Papertrey Ink soft stone vintage cream; Dies - Papertrey Ink fillable frame 7, Memory Box nested bird, woodland branch

I will try and catch up on Friday's and Saturday's class if I can :)

tsg - the sun will come out tomorrow

Hello! How about a nice bright card today? At There She Goes it is "There She Goes Again" week where we look at previously released sets. This week we are looking at Dadisms, LOL and Under The Weather. I couldn't resist the cuuuute images in Under the Weather.

Supplies: Stamps - There She Goes under the weather; Paper - Lily Bee Design buttercup; Die - Spellbinders blossom; Markers; Button; Twine - Stampin' Up

Silly glitter for all it's wonderful sparklyness (that is a real word in my world!) it is virtually impossible to photograph. I highlighted the clouds, trails and hearts and yet you can barely see it!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend :)

happy birthday owl

This is my third post today - please scroll down to see my CASE study and For Your Inspiration cards.

I had a lovely day today with some crafty friends over for lunch and a catch up. Not much crafting got done mind - more catching up LOL. However, while here my friend Michelle showed me her stash of The Craft's Meow stamps which had just arrived. So cuuuute! We had both been inspired by Stephanie's cards with these cuties, so I set to with plenty of white card stock and the latest Embellish challenge in mind. I would normally link to the challenge here but I keep getting an error message at the moment. Hopefully it will be sorted soon.

Supplies: Stamps - The Craft's Meow whoo's birthday, Papertrey Ink turning a new leaf, Paper Smooches geo-graphic, sentiment sampler; Inks - Versacolor sky gray, Amuse bermuda, Versafine onyx black; Clear embossing powder; Markers; Pearls

I shall certainly be placing an order for some of these stamps - the designs are gorgeous! I sat my owl on a branch from Papertrey Ink's Turning a New Leaf and added some chevrons from Paper Smooches and a sentiment also from Paper Smooches finished it off. I love combining stamps from different companies :)

Well that's me for today. I need to catch up on today's die cutting class "A Cut Above" but I haven't had time to stop by the class yet. If I get chance to stamp tonight I will pop by in the morning with the results :)

for your inspiration 28

This is my second post today, please scroll down to see my CASE study card.

I'm popping in here this morning with a wonderful photo for our next For Your Inspiration challenge.

I must admit that this one had me stumped for a loooooong time! I love the orange trend which seems to be emerging at the moment, but I'm afraid I'm not a big fan of purple. However, once I'd decided to incorporate the purple as a dark card base on which to sit a white mat with splash of orange I quite liked the end result.

Supplies: Stamps - Hero Arts antique engravings, Papertrey Ink pretty peonies; Ink - Versafine onyx black; Card - Stampin' Up elegant eggplant; Dies - Spellbinders circles; Markers

I combined this challenge with A Blog Named Hero's challenge to create a card with a window.

And I'm also going to pop it into the gallery for day 2 of the online card class "A Cut Above" which was to make a window card :)

Please call be these lovely ladies for more inspiration and I hope you get the chance to play along with us this week :)

thank you

Lets get straight to it shall we?! This card is for todays class at Online Card Classes which concentrates on shaped cards. I don't have a lot of larger dies, so this card is quite tiny - it uses the largest of the Spellbinders labels 4 dies.

Supplies: Stamps - Hero Arts newspaper background, antique engravings, thank you messages; Inks - Distress Inks peeled paint, broken china, pumice stone Versacolor split pea, Hero Arts shadow ink wet cement, Versafine onyx black; Dies - Spellbinders labels 4, circles; Ribbon - Papertrey Ink

I must admit to being very inspired by Cristina's card here where she used neutrals with black die cuts and a pop of colour. Thanks for the inspiration Cristina! For my card base I added the newspaper background from Hero Arts in wet cement ink before inking the edges with pumice stone Distress Ink. The main embellishment is similar to one I created for my Dirty Dozen gallery last month. I masked a circle on white card stock and applied ink directly to the paper before sewing around and around. Finally I die cut the circle out then added the butterfly coloured with distress inks and the sentiment.

This card turned out to be quite detailed and inky for me - not so much my CAS style but it's always good to mix things up a bit!

I'm going to pop this over to Hero Arts April challenge gallery  for their shaped card element. Until tomorrow :) Although tomorrow will be quite busy with my CASE study card and For Your Inspiration card as well.
